Show # 5 - Creative Budget Shopping

Shopping on a budget sounds like a drag and budgeting is often difficult for moms who constantly need to buy necessary items for the kids. Frequent trips to the grocery store are a fact of life and that makes spending within a budget challenging.
Imagine living 100 miles away from the nearest clothing store. What happens when you have to drive 30 miles to a children’s boutique that often sells over-priced clothing? Our guest this week is Alyssa Avant from Beauty by Design Online who has to use creative shopping tricks to save money because she lives so far away from clothing stores. She’s able to conserve gas by planning her trips well and picking up everything she needs at once but also tries to follow a budget.
We mentioned a lot of online websites that Alyssa and I frequent so here’s a list for your convenience:
- Twinkle Toes Bowtique
- eBay!
- PaperBackSwap.com — hey try this too — SwapaCD.com
- Bargain Shopping at Amazon
(more than books!)
- PriceProtectr
- The Children’s Place
Check these daily for special bargains:
- Woot Daily - Deals on various products
- DealDotCom (Internet Marketing Daily Deals & Discounts) The name of this website can cause alot of headaches. It sure confused me while recording the show!
- Deal.com - Coming Soon! Do not confuse with DealDotCom.com!
If you have any budgeting tricks or awesome online shopping sites, please let us know! Simply fill out a comment below. And don’t forget to fill out our survey and tell us what YOU would like to hear about on upcoming shows!
Mom’s Work at Home Uniform
September 18, 2007 | 1 Comment
My friend Alyssa of Life From My Laptop tagged me to share my WAHM uniform. My uniform varies with the season and the duties for the day, but one thing always remains the same… it’s totally casual! In preparing for this photo opportunity, I realized that I had no current photos of me because I’m always holding the camera. So, this called for an emergency photo session!
If you were a member of my family, you’d understand that we are silly creatures. Photos are a time to “ham it up” and make a great story. We have some pretty wild photos over the years. This photo opportunity proved to be the same. As hard as I tried to be serious, it just wasn’t in me. I hope you’ll enjoy the evidence of my WAHM uniform photo shoot.
The two boys in blue are my middle and youngest children and the toddler is my adorable nephew. The boys did a fine acting job of pretending to fight (they have lots of practice). The scary thing is this could be a real photo any day of the week of many moms! Don’t you talk on the phone while holding the baby, dusting, vacuuming the carpet buried under toys and breaking up squabbles?
We’d love to see YOUR mom uniform. Leave us a comment and tell us where we can see it!
Moms Love Shopping #4 - Shopping on the Go
September 14, 2007 | 2 Comments
Back to school time also means after school activities begin. Many of us rev up the ol’ Mom’s Taxicab and start hustling our kids to their favorite activities, as do hundreds of other moms, making our roads more congested and more dangerous.
Chele chats about ways she saved money on sports equipment for her sons this fall season and also interviews Mark Boomershine, whose invention can help protect you and your family from a rear end collision.
When drivers are distracted with crying children, radios, and cell phones in the car, watching the road ahead of them becomes much more difficult as they try to maintain peace inside their car. All it takes is a split second for somebody to slam on their brakes and you have a rear end collision, often with multiple cars.
Mark tells Chele that his invention will help prevent many of these collisions, simply by alerting drivers when somebody stops their car quickly. Just that fraction of a second can help save lives.
