Yes, I know it’s only the first day of spring and my kids are finishing up Spring Break but summer is right around the corner! Time to think about swimsuits and sunscreen and vacation!

This week my two sons joined me for some fun. I’m already teaching them how to think ahead and they gave me some great ideas of items we should start shopping for now, before the quantities run out or before the prices increase.

Are YOU thinking ahead? What’s on YOUR summer shopping list? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

Since most moms are the primary grocery shopper and chef in their families, I wanted to share this important health information with you. Almost daily we hear more stories about obsesity and how fat our country is and knowing this info about meat could help you and your family watch your weight and regain good health.

My guest this week is Ted Slanker from Slanker’s Grass-Fed Meats and he gave me quite the education about the differences between grass-fed and grain-fed meats. Did you know that most of the chronic illnesses that plague us could possibly be reversed by eating grass-fed meats?? As Ted says, we need to eat like the cavemen did and he explains what that means.

Eat Wild has more great information as well as other sources to purchase grass-fed meat and dairy. I found Ted Slanker thru this website while looking for a nearby farmer/rancher that strictly raised and sold grass-fed animals. He was down the road from me all this time and I never knew it! :-)

Gift Card Drawbacks - Show #28

Gift cards are a popular and easy way to give a friend or family member a gift but there can be some hidden drawbacks that both the buyer and the recipient should be aware of.

Some companies will charge a service fee if the card sits unused for a certain number of months. A few companies even charge the purchaser a service fee at the time of purchase. No matter when the fees apply, this takes away from the value of the card, so be sure to read all the fine print.

This recent article online illustrates how loyal customers or gift card holders can be ripped off if a retailer files for bankruptcy protection. All of a sudden the $50 gift card in your wallet is useless because the company does not have the funds available to honor it. In this case, the customer who purchased the gift card has given a loan to the store.

As mentioned in the show, here’s a photo of my loot from CVS last week!

cvsshopping

I made out well because I was able to use coupons but I also don’t feel guilty for getting so many good deals because I wasn’t a greedy or wasteful shopper .
