Review:
Until the last year, I loved the smell of coffee but couldn’t stand the taste of it. As my mother promised, eventually I would desire the benefits of coffee enough to get past the taste. I’ve tried instant coffee but I was never able to get it to an acceptable flavor, no matter how much creamer, milk, sugar or other creative flavors I added.
After someone gave me a 4 cup Mr. Coffee and I wasted 10 pounds of coffee testing to get the desired result that I could actually drink, I began to accept the flavor and drink it daily. My only problem was that normally, one cup was enough for me and I was wasting the rest of the pot. I also had a bad habit of forgetting to turn it off, so the coffee in the pot that I didn’t drink would dry to the pot and make a terrible mess. Removing the coffee filter full of grounds was also an annoyance that often proved to be messy. It seemed like a lot of trouble for a simple cup of coffee every morning.
Then, my dear friend Kelly McCausey told me about the Senseo coffee pod system. When I told her that most coffee is too strong or bitter for me, she explained there is a setting on the machine that allows you to make your cup of coffee weaker by selecting the 2 cup setting. After listening to how pleased she was with her machine, I decided I had nothing to lose by trying it. Setting up the machine and preparing for the first cup was very simple. My Senseo® Coffee Machine came with the Dark Roast pods included, so I was immediately a bit skeptical that I wouldn’t like it. Nevertheless, I made my first cup on the 1 cup setting and tried it. I was not surprised that it was too strong so I prepared the machine to make another serving with the 2 cup setting. Much to my delight, the coffee was pleasant and not too strong or bitter for my liking. I never thought I’d be one to enjoy a dark roast cup of coffee!
I’ve since purchased the Paris French Vanilla flavor locally. It is pleasant and delicious. I plan to purchase the Killarney Irish Creamery and Vienna Hazelnut Waltz flavors next.
Did I mention the machine also makes tea? I’m excited about that because I drink several cups of tea daily. I prefer my tea hot except during the summer, but the men in my family are of the opinion that it needs to be cold before they can drink it. To indulge my hot tea craving, I’ll be adding the Minty Green T-Pods to my shopping list as well!

Hey, Chele,
I’m looking in to these for my hubby for Christmas. I’m NOT a coffee drinker, but he is, and loves the cappucino/latte type coffees as well.
Problem is, I’m looking at the prices here, and we’re talking $2/cup! Is that not much, much more expensive than regular coffee? Is my calculation off?

Great review Chele - I actually signed up for a free one and got an approval email - I guess it’ll be a couple of weeks before I get my Senseo and I can’t wait. I do not drink much coffee anymore but I love tea so I will probably try the Minty Green T-Pods too.

Most of the pods (coffee that is, figure appropriately for whichever product you are interested in) come 16 to a package. My package that was purchased locally at Walmart was $3.98. So that’s roughly 25 cents per pod. The Cappuccino pods look to average about 50 cents per pod. Online, the pods are generally sold in sets of 4 -6 with 16 pods each at varying prices depending on where you look. So far, the best prices online that I’ve seen have been found at Amazon.
If you want to get very technical, you could figure up approximately how much you spend on water, sugar, creamers or other treats you add to your coffee. I think you’ll find that it still comes out to less than the gourmet coffee you’ll pay for at a coffee shop. My first and only visit to Starbucks was $5.00 and I didn’t even like it!
Even if you add shipping to the final value and divide that by the number of pods, it still comes in much lower than a coffee from Starbucks or other gourmet coffee shops.
Just check to see the total number of pods you are getting for the price and divide. I think you’ll find it’s a pretty decent price per cup!
Marie - Congratulations! Today I found another reason to love it…
My grandmother will be spending weekdays with me until Christmas. For health reasons, she can’t have caffeine, so as much as she loves coffee, she normally avoids it because it’s such a pain to make special pots for her. I can now have my coffee with out feeling guilty and have a decaffeinated cup made for her in one quick minute. The best part is when I’m finished, I only have 2 coffee cups to wash!

There are reusable filter thingies on Amazon as well so if people are bugged about the possible price of the pods, they can use those to just use regular coffee. You can also buy a pod maker too.
You can find the pods on sale at Target all the time - just watch for sales and stock up! I think I’m actually saving money because I’m not making a full pot just to drink one or two cups. I make my cup in the morning and maybe one in the evening of decaf and I’m done. It’s been great!
