I had such a great experience yesterday. My favorite cashier, Rosita in cosmetics, was at the store. She loves coupons and the first time we met, HAD to find out about my coupon box and loved it so much that she bought 2 – one for her husband who does the shopping and one for the store. I had a little bit leftover on a gift card and used 2 RR from last week. My beginning total was $65.xx. My out of pocket was $26.59 and I received $22.00 back in Register Rewards and a catalina for a free pack of Always pads. Rosita made a big commotion of it to the 4 people behind me and says “This woman knows how to shop!” The expression on the face of the man was the best. He kept looking at my full basket (I had 2 24pks of water and 3 12pks of coke from the 2 day sale) shook his head and said “wow”. It was a great feeling and proves that a happy cashier can turn customers into happy customers, even if having to wait. She also made sure that the front cashier sent over 2 of the customers to her as she knew they had purchased Pantene (the man was one of them). The Pantene is on sale for 2/$8 with a $2RR making them 2/$6. She has $2 coupons to use for her customers making them $1 each after the RR. Wonder how the guy felt when he saved $4 just on his shampoo:) This is the store in Stockton on the corner of Hammer and West lane.

My sister came up for a visit and I invited my grandmother, mother and my sister to my house to watch it with me. The only thing better than a movie about shopping is inviting some gals over to squeal and squirm about someone else’s misadventures in shopping!

We all loved the movie so much, we decided to chit chat about our own shopping confessions for this week’s episode. My mother and sister join me as guests and I was surprised to learn who the TRUE SHOPAHOLIC in my family is!

It seems like the kids were just getting off the bus on the last day of school and here we are, getting ready for the new school year already! I’ve got lots of great tips for finding back to school deals on supplies and clothes and how to plan a fun and enjoyable trip to the mall with the kids (yes, it IS possible!)

Remember that Staples commercial with the music “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and the father joyfully pushing his cart up and down the aisle looking for school supplies while his two kids meandered ever so slowly behind him? I think it’s quite a few years old but still makes me laugh!

Where To Find Half Price Groceries – Show #41

Yes, I like to talk about ways to cut your grocery bills. There are many shows in my archive that are dedicated to that topic but that’s because we all need to feed our families and there are multiple ways to save money.

This week I discovered two non-profit organizations that provide pre-set food packages to families who are in need or who need to save some money during these tough times.

The first is Angel Food Ministries. It was started in 1994 and has grown to multiple sites across the US. You can order different size food packages, each for a set price but you must order by the deadline and you will receive a specific date and time to pickup the order. There are no restrictions to ordering based on income and they even accept food stamps.

The second is the Share Food Program. This is a very similar program with different sized food packages, set prices, and order deadlines. I’ll have to get back to you about whether or not they accept food stamps.

The warm weather has finally arrived so it’s time to get your garden started! I’m loving my Aerogarden and can’t wait for all those tomatoes to ripen but after my move I’m going to start a larger garden. That way I know it’s all fresh and it won’t cost an arm and a leg!

The freegan lifestyle has been getting a lot of presstime lately and has also shocked a lot of television viewers. Oprah dedicated one whole show to freeganism and other networks have run specials on these people who ravage the dumpsters of grocery and other retail stores to get “free stuff.”

This week my guest is Carrie Lauth from Natural Moms Talk Radio and she has done quite a bit of research on the topic. She said that the freegan lifestyle is really a backlash against a wasteful, commercial-driven society that doesn’t care about the earth’s resources or filling up its landfills. By adopting this lifestyle, freegans are reusing perfectly good items.
