There’s lots going on in today’s show!
I know we’re supposed to be done talking about groceries but last month in Episode #41 I told you about the Angel Food Ministries and SHARE Food Program and how they offer very low priced grocery packages for purchase. Today I share my review of both programs and you can see the photos at the links below.
NOW we’ll take a break from talking about groceries!
See the photos from my Half Price Grocery “Spree” as promised:

Where To Find Half Price Groceries - Show #41

Yes, I like to talk about ways to cut your grocery bills. There are many shows in my archive that are dedicated to that topic but that’s because we all need to feed our families and there are multiple ways to save money.
This week I discovered two non-profit organizations that provide pre-set food packages to families who are in need or who need to save some money during these tough times.
The first is Angel Food Ministries. It was started in 1994 and has grown to multiple sites across the US. You can order different size food packages, each for a set price but you must order by the deadline and you will receive a specific date and time to pickup the order. There are no restrictions to ordering based on income and they even accept food stamps.
The second is the Share Food Program. This is a very similar program with different sized food packages, set prices, and order deadlines. I’ll have to get back to you about whether or not they accept food stamps.

Why You Should Compare Grocery Store Prices - Show #37

There’s no way to avoid grocery shopping, especially with growing kids, but do you really know how much things cost? How much do you pay per pound for bananas? How about a gallon of milk? If you just buy these things blindly, you may be overpaying for some of the staples your family uses everyday.
My guest host this week is Carrie Lauth from Natural Moms Talk Radio and she interviewed Janine Bolon, author of Money… It’s Not Just For Rich People. Janine shares how she became a financial counselor and how every family can save thousands of dollars a year by comparing prices of the various grocery stores with a pricebook.

Stockpile Your Pantry - How & Why - Show #33
April 11, 2008 | 9 Comments
One of the more obvious results of the rising fuel prices is that products that we use everyday are also rising in price. If it costs the manufacturer more money to ship a product, you can bet the manufacturer will then charge the consumer more to cover those increased charges.
This week Chele discusses the rising costs of food and necessary staples that every family needs. She shares the benefits of stockpiling our pantries in case of emergency and she also has some tips near the end of the show for saving money on food.
Get Started Stockpiling:
- MLS Show #21 - Money Saving Mom, Crystal Paine lays the foundation
- MLS Show #22 - Part Two with Crystal Paine on coupons & reward shopping
- One Year Food Stockpile - Shopping list to begin building your own
Mentioned in this Episode:
- Truck Driver Strike - Your food & supplies are delivered by these people!
- Gas pricing at the pump - probably not what you think…
- Aerogarden - I’m loving mine! No Green Thumb Needed: Try AeroGarden FREE
Edited to add: Cara, The Household Helper, also has a free guide to help you organize your stockpile and keep it the freshest possible once you get started. Get your free copy now: Food Storage Guide
The Dangers of Eating Grain-Fed Meats - Show #29
March 14, 2008 | 2 Comments
Since most moms are the primary grocery shopper and chef in their families, I wanted to share this important health information with you. Almost daily we hear more stories about obsesity and how fat our country is and knowing this info about meat could help you and your family watch your weight and regain good health.
My guest this week is Ted Slanker from Slanker’s Grass-Fed Meats and he gave me quite the education about the differences between grass-fed and grain-fed meats. Did you know that most of the chronic illnesses that plague us could possibly be reversed by eating grass-fed meats?? As Ted says, we need to eat like the cavemen did and he explains what that means.
Related Resources:
Eat Wild has more great information as well as other sources to purchase grass-fed meat and dairy. I found Ted Slanker thru this website while looking for a nearby farmer/rancher that strictly raised and sold grass-fed animals. He was down the road from me all this time and I never knew it!
