I know a lot of people who have often nabbed something from the garbage pile and found a way to use it. At one place we lived, there was a section for you to leave something that may have not worked or been slightly broken (thus goodwill wouldn't take it) for others to take. Awesome idea!

Oh I've also seen it in the newspaper where people were giving things away - an extension of leaving it at the garbage I think - the newspaper was a new one for me because I think of online sites to list things over a paper.

I don't really think of food that way though I should. It really is amazing what various food stores throw away at the end of the day.

On our "routes" we had many store managers who would "look the other way" because they pay by weight to dispose of their garbage. What we would take away saved them some money. He made it clear that he did not give us the okay but knew that we were doing it.

We also would get the food, that had nothing wrong with it, and on our way home would stop at the shelters to drop stuff off. It's all about giving back, right?

And I will NEVER go when I'm pregnant again... :D

It's a lot of fun and so resourceful.
