Giveaway! Respect Bracelet

rsptMacy’s has teamed up with the Family Violence Prevention Fund and are selling these bracelets with the word RESPECT stamped in them.

Half of the proceeds for these $5 bracelets will benefit the RESPECT! campaign, a Family Violence Prevention Fund initiative sponsored by Macy’s to raise funds and awareness to end violence against women & children.

What better time than Mother’s Day to think about how our mothers taught us to respect others, and how we as mothers teach our children to respect others?

Visit GiveRespect.org to learn more about their initiative, and also to send free e-cards to those you respect.

I have one bracelet to give away to one of our Moms Love Shopping readers! Please leave a comment sharing how you teach respect to your children, or what it means to you to receive respect. I will draw a winner late on Mother’s Day!

I am also giving away a bracelet on my personal blog, so click on over for a 2nd chance to win! You must leave a comment in order to be in the drawing.

One way I am teaching my children to show respect is by calling their friends’ parent’s names starting with Mrs, Mr, etc rather than their first name-so many of my daughter’s friends call me by my first name-because that is what they hear their mother’s address me as and they probably haven’t been told to call me otherwise.

I think kids learn respect by watching how their parents treat other people- whether they are friends or starngers. I try to set a good example and make sure they are always polite to others.

I tell them to give people their space because we don’t know what the other person is going through or what kind of day they are having.

a big part of respect is knowing who to show it to! I think you owe everyone a level of respect and if everyone could do that the world would be a better place!

a big part of respect is listening to others – gotta teach that by example

I believe respect is something best taught by being caught.

Meaning children will catch the meaning of respect by watching us as we show respect to others (and of course to our children too!).

What seems to have greatest impact on children is what they see us do; more than what they hear us say. Because saying one thing and doing another only makes you a hypocrite – and there goes your respect.

Moms seem to be feeling a bit shy about this one, Melanie. Let’s see if I can break the ice!

The most respectful thing I’ve ever been taught, try to teach my own children and truly try to live by is the golden rule:

Treat others the way you wish to be treated.
