One way I am teaching my children to show respect is by calling their friends' parent's names starting with Mrs, Mr, etc rather than their first name-so many of my daughter's friends call me by my first name-because that is what they hear their mother's address me as and they probably haven't been told to call me otherwise.

I think kids learn respect by watching how their parents treat other people- whether they are friends or starngers. I try to set a good example and make sure they are always polite to others.

I tell them to give people their space because we don't know what the other person is going through or what kind of day they are having.

a big part of respect is knowing who to show it to! I think you owe everyone a level of respect and if everyone could do that the world would be a better place!

I believe respect is something best taught by being caught.

Meaning children will catch the meaning of respect by watching us as we show respect to others (and of course to our children too!).

What seems to have greatest impact on children is what they see us do; more than what they hear us say. Because saying one thing and doing another only makes you a hypocrite - and there goes your respect.

Moms seem to be feeling a bit shy about this one, Melanie. Let's see if I can break the ice!

The most respectful thing I've ever been taught, try to teach my own children and truly try to live by is the golden rule:

Treat others the way you wish to be treated.
