Organizing Kids’ Wardrobes

dsc_9605My son has come out of his room 3 days in a row with pants hitting well above his anklebone.  I had to finally admit that it was probably time to do a purge of his clothes.  Summer is coming, and I try to go through my kids’ clothes at least twice a year anyway — but growth spurts sometimes make it happen more often.

A couple years ago I came up with a system that organizes my boys’ clothes in bins, which we keep on shelves in their closets. Each bin holds one type of clothing, and if the bin is too full, chances are there are things in there that either don’t fit, or are just not needed.

The bin system makes the purging process a bit easier. I asked my oldest to bring his pants bin into the living room after laundry day so we could go through it.  We went through all the pants, and realized that all but one pair were ready to be handed down to his younger brother!

Now it’s time to replenish his wardrobe, with an eye on savings. I don’t think I’ve ever paid full price for an item of children’s clothing.  It’s getting warm here in Arizona, and he still has shorts that fit, so it’s not a critical situation. I will start watching the ads, and checking stores for children’s clothing clearance items to fill up his wardrobe again.

Do you have a great tip for finding deals on children’s clothes? I’d love to hear it!
