Review: Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion

I was recently contacted to sample and review  Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion.

I had never heard of the product before, but after doing some quick research at the Skin MD Natural company website, I was eager to put their lotion to the test.

This is a rather lengthy review. Overall, I have found this to be a product worthy of a great review based on my own personal experience with it. I’ll cover my son’s experience, my own, and any negative aspects of the product in my opinion at the end.

My Youngest Son’s Experience:

Not only do I have dry skin, but my youngest son has suffered from severe eczema from birth. We’ve bought and tried TONS of lotions over the years that he can’t use because they burn or irritate his skin. The only thing he’s ever successfully been able to use is Crisco Shortening (I wish I were kidding about this, but he actually has his very own container in his room for his personal use).

Honestly, I figured this lotion would fail for my son as well, but I was pleasantly surprised! When I first asked him to try it, he looked nervous but agreed to do so. He quickly smiled and said, “It doesn’t burn!” and held his hand out for more lotion to apply to other dry, cracked parts of his body.

As if that weren’t benefit enough for my son, it also meant that he didn’t have to sit on a towel in the floor to slather himself with Crisco and avoid the furniture for the rest of the night to finally achieve itch relief!

My Experience:

While my dry skin isn’t quite as severe as my son’s, I do struggle with dry skin on my body most of the year. This is especially true during the winter months.

To make matters worse, I’m nearly obsessive compulsive about hand washing and this makes for extremely dry, cracked and rough hands unless I’m constantly applying lotion. As a mom, it’s nearly impossible to moisturize your hands during the day because your hands become slippery until the cream or lotion dries. This makes many everyday tasks virtually impossible, including buttoning your child’s jeans! So, if you haven’t guessed, I usually avoid using lotion during the day.

My favorite aspect of this lotion is the fact that it not only quickly moisturizes and gives relief, it is non-greasy and quick absorbing. I can immediately go on with other tasks!

Not only did the Skin MD Natural Lotion work great on my busy hands, it worked great on my feet and face!

My Feet Adore It

My feet become so dry in winter that they itch and drive me insane. When this happened, I decided to do a little test of my own. I grabbed some of my thick foot creme that takes forever to dry and usually requires me to wrap my foot with saran wrap then put a sock over it so I can walk without getting it on the carpet.

First, I applied the foot creme to one foot. Then, on the other foot, I applied Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion. It literally took me three minutes to finish rubbing in the foot creme and wrapping my foot in saran wrap and socks. I was completely finished moisturizing my other foot and applying my sock (it’s cold in here!) within seconds.

Guess what? The foot that I applied the creme to was STILL itching and I had instant relief with the other foot. The difference was painfully obvious. I ripped everything off and washed my foot in the tub and then applied the Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion to the other foot. It was great!

My Face Likes It, Too

I’m at the unfortunate age that I’m fighting zits and wrinkles at the same time. It’s torture! If I use moisturizer to fight dry skin and wrinkles, then I’m dealing with clogged pores or oily looking make-up later. If I use acne fighting products, my skin is overly dry. It seems I can’t win. Then comes Ol’ Man Winter!

My face has been feeling tight with the onset of cooler weather and starting to become scaly in some areas. I decided it couldn’t possibly hurt to try another product on my face! The tightness was instantly relieved. I decided to take it another step further and apply it before my makeup (I can hear beauty experts everywhere gasping right now!) instead of my usual beauty moisturizer. Surprisingly, my makeup didn’t look or feel oily later.

I’ve been applying the Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion to my face before I go to bed and every morning. I don’t have the tight feeling in my face anymore. As for the wrinkles, so far, I don’t look 17 again yet, but I can’t say I look any older, either!

Final Thoughts

If you are still reading this, you have probably gathered that my son and I truly like this product. We’ve both been using the same bottle for several weeks now and it’s not empty yet. Because the Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion actually works effectively and the consistency of the lotion spreads easily, it doesn’t take a lot of lotion to achieve relief.

The Pros

• Paraben Free
• Hypoallergenic, Non-comedogenic (will not clog pores).
• Absorbs quickly. No greasy feeling.
• Gentle on sensitive, dry, cracked skin and eczema.
• No fragrance or colorants to irritate skin.
• No animal testing.

The Cons

• The bottle is smaller than I expected (but as I said, a little goes a long way).
• The Skin MD Natural price tag is a bit more than most store brand lotions.  —  However, you get what you pay for in terms of quality.  Also, because this product also works great as facial moisturizer, you may be paying more than this for your facial moisturizer alone.  When you consider this, the price really shouldn’t be an issue.  —

But Will Chele Buy It When She Runs Out?

Yes, silly! I’m hoping my poor son learns that Crisco Shortening can be used for cooking after this experience!
