Thank you Chele for the great information and reminders of what we need to do to prepare for the hard times to come. My husband and I have talked about this for a while and just didn't really know where to start. If not for a friend at church I would never have found this website via moneysavingmom.com. Blessings to you and to Crystal Paine for all your much needed advice. I will definately tell others about these websites. With things in better perspective I am looking so forward to saving every penny I can now.

Not to be a fearmonger (there is lots we can do!), but the connection between food prices and gasoline (oil) goes much, much deeper than merely driving tractors and shipping it to market. The artificial fertilizers that our current high-yield agriculture requires are made from oil. As a culture, we need to begin caring for the land in a different way, and educate ourselves as to our relationship to it.

Thanks for being a voice for self-empowerment and the importance of family.

This was an excellent show Chele! I have a stockpile of items that would last us about 6 weeks. With the exception of eggs, milk and fresh produce, I can live off my pantry (personal care products included). This really came in handy when I had my son unexpectedly. Your show has inspired me to expand on my pantry - but first I need to find some space!

This is a great show. We don't formally stockpile but I know I need to start that up again. Even on a small scale we've seen the value of it when the entire family has been sick and we're completely unable to go out for food.

Really great info - and something we all do need to think about. We used to do well stockpiling but since moving and living with family, obviously we don't - but sadly, neither does our family! I am actually on my way to organize my Dad's pantry, do a meal plan and plan the grocery shopping this weekend.

Oh and here is a picture of our pantry - this is after our shopping trip but it was rarely empty on any shelf. http://losingmybabyweight.com/2007/picture-of-pantry.php
