Summer Idea – Factory Tours

If you’re looking for a different kind of outing, have you considered factory tours?  There are bound to be factories in your town offering tours, often for little to no cost. Factory tours are a great way for kids to see how things are made, and understand more of the process of how things end up in stores.

Visit Factory Tours USA for an extremely comprehensive list of factories throughout the United States that offers tours. It’s a great site to visit before you take a vacation as well, since you may be able to fit in a few tours on the way to your destination, and after you arrive.

If you can’t make it to the actual factory, some of the company websites offer a virtual tour – like the Cerreta Candy Company here in Glendale, AZ.  A virtual tour can be a fun afternoon activity when the sun is too bright to be outdoors.

I’m always on the lookout for free, or inexpensive places to visit with the kids – and am going to try to visit both the PING factory and the candy factory this summer!  What about you?
